The dark, vacant storefronts in Mount Berry Square Mall may be changing some time soon.
Hull Storey Gibson Companies announced Friday their acquisition of Rome’s only enclosed mall. This will be the 21st mall in the Augusta-based company’s portfolio, as they own several southeastern shopping malls like the Statesboro and Macon Mall.  With 35 years of experience in the industry of growing retail properties, they were named by Retail Traffic magazine as one of the top 50 owners of retail space in America.
Jim Hull, the managing partner of the Hull Storey Gibson, said they plan to “improve” the shopping experience for customers. The company claims to self-manage and it will personally deal with leading, property management, construction and the redevelopment of Mount Berry.
The purchase comes after a chaotic history of Mount Berry Square Mall passing from owner-to-owner
The mall was first developed and built by Crown American corporation in 1991. It later passed into the hands of Lightstone Group. Due in-part to the economic crisis, the company turned the mall over to its lender. Urban Retail Properties was its current manager before the Friday sale.
On Tuesday, it was listed on, an online real-estate marketplace, with the minimum bid at $2 million. No comment has been issued from the Mall’s current administration on what changes to expect.
