In response to Dalton’s staggeringly high unemployment rate, the Georgia Department of Labor will be holding a Job Readiness Kick-off October 22nd through the 24th.
The three-day event will be held at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention center and will feature workshops, networking opportunities and resume assistance. A newly-created and specialized workforce assistance team from the state labor office is working in conjunction with Whitfield and Murray county businesses to connect people with jobs, which area officials assert, are there.
Dalton was hard hit by the economy. The unemployment rate hovers around 12% and in 2011 alone, the “Carpet Capital of the World” lost more than 3000 jobs. With this in mind, the labor office selected it for this convention, which is the first of its kind in Georgia. The team will collect information from job seekers and connect them to jobs in the area. Participants will then be invited back to the convention center on December 5th to meet interested business leaders and employers.
The job readiness fair will take place next Monday through Wednesday, from 1-8pm.
