Water continues to be at the forefront of the county commission’s mind.
At their Tuesday afternoon meeting, the Floyd County Commission approved a contract with the City of Calhoun to purchase their excess water at a rate of a $1.40 per thousand gallons. This comes just weeks after approving a 1.9 million dollar project to renovate the Fulton Rd. well and water filtration system. The ten-year contract with Calhoun is just another way that the commission is trying to save the county money on their water bills, said county manager Brian Williams.
“It’s a plentiful water source. From a water quality point-of-view, it’s a good source. It’s a favorable rate,” he said.  “We may need to consider a rate increase regardless of this decision, but we are continuing to make good decisions about our water sources.”
The commission also approved a contract with Dempsey Auction House. The county currently owns 125 plus properties that have remained unsold after tax sales at the courthouse. Dempsey will aid the county in auctioning these properties off at a surplus sale on December 10th at the Forum.
