A potentially dire stand-off between a gunman and Cartersville police ended peacefully Friday evening.
Cartersville City Police responded to a call of shots fired at the Parkway North Apartments at 7pm.There, they reportedly found that a man had fired shots at two people and he and another suspect were holed up in one of the apartments with multiple weapons. Officers evacuated the surrounding residents and advised the suspects to give themselves up. SWAT officers were called to the scene and a standoff followed. At 8:40pm, one suspect surrendered to police, with his cohort coming out only moments later. Officers took 28-year-old Jesse Tyler Sanderson and 34-year-old William Donald Garland into custody. Sweeping the apartment, officers found a dismantled 20 gauge shotgun. Though it was resolved peacefully, the two men still face serious charges. Garland is charged with party to a crime and felony obstruction, while Sanderson, the alleged gunman, faces charges of felony obstruction, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
