November unemployment numbers have been released by the Georgia Department of Labor, showing positive trends for the Northwest Georgia region.

The statewide unemployment rate is down a full percentage point to 8.5 percent from the same time last year, and down two-tenths of a percentage point from October.

The unemployment rate for Northwest Georgia in November fell to 8.4 percent, which is a three-tenths of a percentage point drop from the previous month’s rate of 8.7 percent.

County-by-county numbers vary with Paulding County having the lowest rate of surrounding counties at 7.5 percent. Polk checks in at 8.2 percent, Bartow is not far behind at 8.3 percent. The Floyd County unemployment rate was at 9.4 percent. However, the highest county numbers can be found in Chattooga and Whitfield with numbers in the double digits.

Metro Rome's November unemployment rate continues to trend in the right direction as November's rate of 9.4 percent is down a full percentage point from the same time last year and fell slightly from October's 9.6 percent. The rate declined due to fewer layoffs, represented by first-time claims for unemployment insurance benefits.
