A Kingston man was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon following an altercation with Gordon County Sherriff’s Deputies.
A little before 4pm, the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to a home on Dews Pond Rd near Calhoun in response to a report of an armed man threatening his wife. Deputies arrived to find 48-year-old Allen Eugene Ott of Kingston sitting in a stolen pick-up truck, holding a large caliber rifle. Officers told Ott to put the gun down, and despite warnings, he pointed the rifle at one of the deputies, who in turn shot him. Ott then reportedly pointed his rifle at a second deputy, and was shot again. An ambulance removed him from the scene and pronounced him dead.
Sherriff Mitch Ralston released a statement later that day, calling the violent altercation “an unfortunate incident where an individual threatened the deputies, placing them in fear for their lives and forced them to take action.” As per their procedures, the deputies will be placed on paid, administrative leave until the GBI completes their investigation.
