The Christmas holiday spike at the gas pump appears to be over as prices are lower or static in many Northwest Georgia counties.

The reduced gas prices are also reflected in both the state and nationwide averages for regular unleaded fuel. This week AAA-South reports an average price of $3.30 per gallon in Georgia, down three cents from last week, and a slight dip in average price from $3.31 to $3.30 per gallon across the country.

Gasoline cost is reduced in many areas of Northwest Georgia this week and stayed the same in others, with Calhoun and Dalton offering the cheapest fuel with low prices of $3.12 and $3.13 per gallon respectively. Prices in Cartersville, Rome, Hiram, Dallas, Lindale, Cedartown, Rockmart and Trion are between $3.15 and $3.19 per gallon.

AAA spokeswoman Jessica Brady said she expects prices will continue to fall through the end of the month. Demand for gasoline remains at a low level throughout the U.S. this winter.
