Former Rome Police officer arrested on drug charges

A former Rome Police officer is in trouble with the law again after she was arrested Monday evening.

According to jail reports, Ambar Monica Velasquez, 32 of an Elizabeth St. address was found to have Xanex and Hydrocodone pills without proper prescriptions. She also allegedly had ledgers and documents drawn up for the sale of those controlled substances. During a search of the Budget Inn motel room, police also found a glass smoking device with suspected meth residue on it.

She faces five felony charges, including Possession of Xanax, Possession of Hydrocodone, as well as possession with intent to distribute both substances. She also was charged with Possession of Meth. Already on probation, but was wanted for violation of those terms back in February.

She remains locked up in the Floyd County Jail without bond.

Three other individuals were in the room with Velasquez and face a number of charges as well. Christopher Lee Hawkins, Dawn Ashley Hawkins, and Kylie Jade Hilliard all were charged with numerous drug crimes.
