UPDATE FRIDAY 6 AM: Cartersville Police Captain Mark Camp has identified the man killed late Thursday night as Robert Patrick Johnson, age 48 of Cartersville. Johnson was crossing the street when he was struck by a vehicle being driven by Lance Leston, age 52, who had just left work at 'Farmer's Furniture.'
Leston and a witness both told police Johnson ran out in front of the car and Leston didn't have time to avoid hitting him. Leston was tested for alcohol and drugs and none were detected. Johnson however was holding a beer can when he was killed.
There is no indication from police at this time that charges will be filed against the driver in the case.
A man was killed Thursday night crossing US 41 in Cartersville.
Captain Mark Camp says the accident occurred around 9:45pm. The 48-year-old victim was struck by a car as he was crossing Joe Frank Harris Parkway just north of Martin Luther King Dr. on the southbound side.
Reportedly there were witnesses to the incident.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his family.
