To keep motorists safe as they transverse Georgia roads this summer, the local law enforcement will be cracking down hard on speeders and people not wearing their seatbelt. As part of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety’s 100 Days of Summer H.E.A.T. initiative, you can definitely expect to see patrol cars all over Northwest Georgia pulling over unsafe drivers.
Though an inconvenience to some, this is done to save lives---young motorists especially, says Highway Safety director Harris Blackwood.
“This is a big seasons for college and high-school students. Sadly we lose more young people at this time of the year,” Blackwood says. “Prom season has happened, and now graduation and getting out of school---young people get behind the wheel and lose their concentration.”
In its 10th season, the program runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
