Construction can now begin at the future site of the new Anna K. Davie School, as all eminent domain issues have been settled.
The news was made public by Rome City Manager John Bennett Monday night at the city’s commission meeting.
“We did settle on a property for new school that everyone knows as the ‘building in the triangle,” Bennett says. “It was settled last week and that concludes the purchases, so the school system is free to start with their construction.”
The triangle property on East Main St. was owned by Kerry Brown, who had lived in the building there for over 30 years. Brown was hesitant to relinquish the property, asking the city to save the 100-year-old structure and turn it into an adult learning facility.
Bennett says they are still in deliberating whether or not they will tear the triangle building down.
