A 66-year-old man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle wreck in Bartow County.
The Georgia State Patrol reports the wreck occurred around 3pm on GA 293 outside of Emerson. The 1994 Jeep Cherokee driven by 33-year-old Michelle Lea Staples of Cartersville crossed the centerline and left the roadway. Authorities say Staples swerved back into the road, and then left it again, striking two trees before coming to a halt.
Killed in the accident was Carl L. Beattie of Acworth, who was a passenger in the Jeep. Staples was injured and taken to Kennestone Medical Hospital for treatment.
A blood sample has been drawn from Staples to determine if alcohol contributed in any way to the wreck.
