A Villa Rica man and U.S. Army soldier was killed in combat in Afghanistan over the weekend by small arms fire.
Army Staff Sergeant Joshua J. Bowden, age 28, died Saturday from injuries suffered during a battle in Ghanzi, Afghanistan, which is roughly 90 miles southwest of the nation’s capital city of Kabul.
According to the Douglas County Sentinel Bowden was serving his second tour in Afghanistan and had previously been decorated with a multitude of military honors including the Purple Heart. He was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado.
Bowden was a 2003 graduate of Alexander High School in Douglasville.
