Floyd County Police officers were called to Midway Primary School in Silver Creek late Wednesday morning when teachers heard gunshots in the distance.
Thankfully the incident offered no threat to students.
The call to police was a precautionary step on the part of the staff at Midway Primary who also removed the children from the playground.
Phillip Wheeler with Floyd County 9-1-1 Dispatch says the call came in shortly after 11:45 am Wednesday. School personnel told dispatch they heard six gunshots and in response five police cars were sent to the scene. Wheeler says no evidence of a shooter was found near the school and police left before 1 pm.
Floyd School System spokesman Tim Hensley says children went back outside for recess later in the day.
Classes continued without disruption.
Floyd County officers were called to Midway Primary School in Silver Creek this afternoon when teachers could her gunshots in the distance. The source of the gunfire was a neighbor that lives near the school. No one was hurt. No one was ever inside the school with a gun. Calling police was a precautionary step on the part of the staff at Midway Primary. Teachers also removed the children from the playground.
There is no indication that the children were ever in danger.
