The Cedartown City Commission Monday voted unanimously to appoint current Assistant City Police Chief Jamie Newsome as the next Chief of Police.
The action comes on the heels of the announced retirement of current Police Chief Henry King on Friday, September 27. The following day, Newsome’s new appointment will go into effect.
“It’s a great honor for me,” said Newsome, who has served as Assistant Police Chief since October 2008. “I don’t look at it as a position of privilege; I look at it as a position of responsibility.”
Newsome began his career in law enforcement in 1990 when he joined the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and over the next 18 years worked his way up to the rank of Administrative Captain of Professional Standards and Training.
