UPDATED AT 12 PM FRIDAY: A happy ending to what was a troubling story early Friday in Floyd County as a missing elderly woman was found unharmed just before 11 am.

According to Rome Police investigator Chris Arrington, Cheryl Diana Harris, age 67, who police said has dementia, was found within 300 yards of where her vehicle was found abandoned overnight. The car was parked at the intersection of Huffakre Road and Technology Parkway. Arrington said she was found in the woods, and other than being cold and disoriented, had no physical injuries.

The search involved a number of different agencies in Floyd County in addition to the Rome Police, including Floyd County Police, Floyd Sheriff’s officers and Floyd EMA. State resources were also called in to help.

Rome Police issued a Mattie’s call for Harris shortly after 5 am Friday when her family reported she had been missing since 8 pm Thursday night.
