The Polk School District Board of Education has chosen Dr. William A. Hunter to be their next Superintendent, following a vote during a special called session Thursday afternoon.
Following a nationwide search that spanned over several months, the school board voted 6-1 to hire the former McIntosh County superintendent.
Dr. Hunter was one of two finalists vying for the head job, including Dr. Samuel P. Light, currently serving as a Superintendent in a rural Illinois school district.
School board chair Jane Holbrooks says that Hunter was a top candidate from the start.
“He really is passionate about education and that came across during the entire interview process and discussions among board members.”
Dr. Hunter will begin his tenure as Polk School District Superintendent on March 18, in which time he will locate a residence in Polk County and meet with central office staff in the coming days as he prepares for the transition into the position.
