UPDATE 4 PM Thursday: About six months after the police found their teenage son wandering and emaciated in Los Angeles, Paul and Sheila Comer were each sentenced Thursday to 15 years in prison for their actions.
The Paulding County couple tortured Mitch Comer, now age 18, for several years, depriving him of food and keeping him locked in dark rooms. According to the AJC a judge on Thursday handed down 30 year sentences to the Comer’s, with 15 of those years to be served in prison. Both faced numerous counts of Child Cruelty and False Imprisonment and agreed to plead guilty to the charges and forfeit their assets in exchange for a reduced sentence. Their money will be put into a trust fund for the victim and the Comer’s two young daughters.
A Paulding County couple accused of imprisoning and torturing their teenage son is expected to plead guilty in Superior Court Thursday.
Back in September Paul and Sheila Comer were arrested after Mitch Comer, now age 18, was found wandering near a bus station in Los Angeles, so badly malnourished his skin had become translucent. Paul Comer, Mitch’s stepfather, put him on a bus in Louisiana and sent him to the West Coast. The victim told police he had spent years locked in a dark room with little food.
Both parents face multiple charges of Child Cruelty and False Imprisonment.
WSB reports Mitch Comer is now living with a foster family in Cobb County and is said to be attending a private school and flourishing in his new life.
