Rome City Commissioners and developers of the long awaited West Third Street hotel could sign final documents Friday that would clear the way for construction to begin later this year.
Rome Mayor Evie McNiece says a new Courtyard by Marriott would bring a unique lodging option to downtown Rome, while offering conference space, restaurants, and entertainment opportunities...
"That's what is going to make this so different. It's going to be a destination point. It's going to be a place where people can have conferences and a lot of groups coming in. It's a very needed asset for Rome."
City Commissioners got a firsthand look Thursday morning of the plans, and according to city manager John Bennett, the hotel will be a unique design to coincide with the downtown riverfront location.
"It's going to be really nice. The building will actually have two fronts, one facing West 3rd and one facing the river."
Construction is expected to get underway in the late summer months with completion sometime in the fall of 2014.
