Current Rome City Public Works Director Jamie McCord has been elected to be the next Floyd County Manager.
The decision came through a unanimous vote by county commissioners Tuesday afternoon following a nearly four month, nation-wide search to fill the vacant seat left by Blaine Williams in December. More than 55 applicants sent in their resumes, and of those, the pool was narrowed down to three.
Commissioner Gary Fricks, who served on the search committee, says McCord is a ‘rising star,’ and his familiarity with Floyd County is just one of the factors that contributed to his hire.
“It was a factor, but there were multiple factors---his concepts, his approach on different projects from our interviews. His familiarity will be an asset. He jumps on board tomorrow, and he knows the community already. He doesn’t have a learning curve there,” Fricks says.
“In the changing atmosphere in the government today, there are so many laws changing. The person has to be very reactive and adjust quickly, because we can’t do business like we did 10 years ago. We have to do business as it is tomorrow. I think Jamie has that attitude.”
McCord has spent the past 15 years working for the local government, having served under the Georgia Department of Transportation before that. There’s still no word on when his official starting day will be.
