Bartow County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating the discovery of a body on the Etowah River Thursday evening.
Sheriff Clark Millsap says deputies and investigators responded to Jones Slough Road at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday. Reports say a man fishing on the river called 9-1-1 when he spotted what he believed to be a body in the water. After being removed from the water, the body was transported to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. Authorities will not release the name of the deceased until after a positive ID is made and next of kin is notified.
It is highly speculated that the body could be that of missing Bartow resident Blake Cowart, who has been missing since Wednesday, April 3. A search has been underway over the past two weeks.
