The local chapter of the NAACP is preparing for a march and rally Saturday in support of slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin, who was shot to death in February 2012.
Following George Zimmerman’s acquittal in his 2nd degree murder trial last weekend the story has been covered relentlessly by the national media and has brought about action from groups and churches in Northwest Georgia.
All those who wish to take part in the march are being asked to assemble at 11:30 am Saturday to march from The Floyd County Courthouse to the Federal Building in downtown Rome. The march will begin at noon.
NAACP Political Action Chairman Alvin Jackson told WRGA in recent days he was disappointed by the Zimmerman verdict but not surprised by it.
A peaceful program was held in response to the court’s decision earlier this week here in Rome at the Greater Christ Temple Rapture Preparation Holiness Cathedral.
