It’s been almost a full week since the George Zimmerman verdict was handed down in Florida, but rallies and protests persist throughout the nation.
In Rome, two protests have been scheduled for this weekend. On Saturday, the local NAACP will take to the streets, leading a peace and justice march at noon downtown. A second event, called the Justice for Trayvon Martin March and Walk, is slated for this Sunday at 5pm.
Both Laura Stewart and her daughter Ciara organized the Sunday rally, where protestors will be decked out in black and carrying signs.
“I feel like it wasn’t right. There are a lot of young kids that are getting killed and people are getting by with murder. It’s something that needs to get something done about,” Laura Stewart says. “They shouldn’t just let it go. We are trying to get everybody in our community of Rome to come together so we can stop all this violence.”
Saturday marchers are asked to assemble at 11:30am at the county courthouse.  The Sunday protest will begin at 5pm at Broad St. and First Avenue.
