Number of Traffic Accidents Up in Rome this Year

The number of traffic accidents in the city limits of Rome is up this year.

According to statistics from the Rome Police Department, there have been 1,264 crashes so far this year compared to 1,141 this same time last year.

In June, Rome Police responded to 206 wrecks, compared to 176 in June of 2016.

Those 206 wrecks saw 75 injuries and one fatality, which occurred on June 16 when an ambulance crashed in front of Berry College, killing 55-year-old Tony Patterson, who was being transported.

Rome Police also made 41 DUI arrests in June, which is up from just 26 in June of last year. 

Two intersections saw the most accidents last month.

Martha Berry Boulevard at Veterans Memorial Highway and Turner McCall at Hicks Drive both had 9.

Shorter Avenue at Redmond Circle had seven while Martha Berry at 2nd Avenue had 5.
