Floyd Sheriff will not seek re-election in 2020

Floyd County Sheriff Tim Burkhalter has announced that he will not run for re-election in 2020.

Burkhalter has been sheriff first elected sheriff in 2004.

When he retires in 2020, he will have been with the department a total of 35 years.

Meanwhile, Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Operations Tom Caldwell has announced his intent to run for sheriff in 2020, when Burkhalter’s term expires.

Caldwell plans to formally announce his campaign and discuss his platform at a meet-and-greet event for family and supporters in the spring.

He is the first candidate to announce in the 2020 sheriff’s race and has indicated he will seek election in the Republican Primary.
