6-year-old reported dead from gunshot wound in Paulding County

The Paulding County Sheriffs office has confirmed that a accidental shooting has taken the life of a 6-year-old girl.

According to a press release from the Paulding County Sheriffs office, the young girls 4-year-old brother found a loaded handgun in their mothers vehicle. The mother was outside of the vehicle, as she was attempting to see why her vehicle would not start. The incident took place on Monday afternoon.

EMS and Fire personel responded to the call, transporting the girl to an Atlanta Hospital.

She was pronounced dead on Wednesday at the hospital.

Sheriff Gary Gulledge stated, “Our hearts break for this family and we hope God puts his healing hands around them during this difficult time.” Sheriff Gulledge also noted, “We want to remind everyone to keep their firearms unloaded and secured in an area away from children to ensure that this never happens again.”

Charges are not expected to be filed in the tragic shooting.
