From staff reports
Students in Rome and Floyd County are headed back to class today. Bartow and Paulding county schools remain closed after winter weather over the weekend.
Public works crews were busy as temperatures stayed below freezing on Saturday and Sunday, turning the snowfall into ice on many roads.
Floyd County Public Works Director Michael Skeen said they started about midnight Friday and stayed busy all weekend.
It’s only January 9 and it is possible we could see snow and maybe ice again. Skeen said he is optimistic about a new tool the city of Rome has.
The brine operation allows for some pretreatment and Skeen said he is hoping county workers can get some tanks together and use some of it.
While police were called to several wrecks on Saturday, no serious injuries were reported.
