Staff Reports

The Floyd County Commission approved several contracts for upgrades to be made to The Forum at their meeting Tuesday.

So far several improvements have been made to The Forum, such as the completion of the roof, blackening of the ceiling, cleaning of the interior and the hanging of the digital video curtains.

“We just approved the WIFI contract for $53,000 to do over 1,000 connections. This will help us with our ticket software, concession sales, and the employees and the general public while they are at events.  Also hardware for point of sale for concession stands and any beverage sales we may do. Also updating the website, about $7,000 for the website updates,” said County Manager Jamie McCord.

Also approved was the design services contract with Peacock Partnership “to manage the improvements to the Ball Room at the Forum and that will be in the amount of $60,000. They are going to do drastic changes in the Ball Room. You are going to have a full blown window, a raising of the ceiling and different layout so that the room is a lot more compatible to different types of events that come in there,” according to McCord.

The updates to The Forum are a SPLOST Project.

The local outdoor burn ban ordinance was approved on second reading by the commission after the serious drought conditions Rome and Floyd County encountered at the end of 2016.

According to McCord, “We’ve got an ordinance in place now where Sammy (Rich) and I can approve a burn ban if we need too. This will be a last resort. It just makes it where the fire chief can come to both of us and say we have an issue and we need to limit outdoor burning.”

Also approved on second reading was the Fiscal Year 2017 Budget Resolution, revisions of articles 3, 4, & 6 of the ULDC regarding residential cluster developments, and revisions of articles 4, 8, & 6 of the ULDC regarding Recreational Vehicle Parks.
