A Leesburg woman died on Friday after being struck by a vehicle at her residence.
According to Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton, Cherokee EMS, Leesburg Fire Department, and Leesburg Police Department all responded to the scene just after 6:00 p.m.
Deaton said that the subject was taken to a landing zone at the Leesburg FEMA building and was en route to a regional trauma center when her condition deteriorated and the helicopter diverted to Marshall Medical Center South in Boaz where she was pronounced dead.
The victim is identified as 27-year-old Leesburg resident Kirsten Raelyn Pearson of an Evans Road address. It appears a small child accidentally engaged the engine and the vehicle struck Mrs. Pearson. According to Dr. Deaton, she suffered a fatal crush injury to the chest.
The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office and the Leesburg Police Department continue to investigate.
According to Kirsten’s father, no funeral arrangements have been made at this time.
