Cedar Bluff Man Arrested Following High-Speed Chase Through Centre Thursday Night
Friday, April 27, 2018- 2:41 p.m.
A Cedar Bluff man is lodged in the Cherokee County Detention Center following a chase that involved Centre Police and several other local law enforcement agencies on Thursday night
According to Police Chief Kirk Blankenship, earlier that evening a string of crimes had been committed against several businesses in Centre by that offender.
At approximately 9:00 the Walmart at 1950 West Main Street reported a shoplifter; around 11:35 a call from the Waffle House located at 2070 West Main came in stating that a former employee had left without paying for their meal.  Officer Daniel Wooten then received a call from the Grub Mart convenience store at 1700 West Main reporting that they had just had a “gasoline drive off” involving a White Ford Dully truck – which was later discovered to have been stolen from Ft Payne.
Officer Wooten quickly located the vehicle at the Huddle House just down the street.   When confronted, Daylon Brown, the suspect in all three crimes, ran to the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene.  Brown struck Wooten’s police vehicle twice before leaving the parking lot and a chase began across Centre which eventually involved Centre Officers and Police Chief Kirk Blankenship along with members of the Cedar Bluff and Leesburg Police Departments and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
That pursuit came to an end when Deputy Dalton Cosby deployed spike strips near the 411 Drive in.
Brown, age 22, was taken into custody and charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Attempting to Elude, Resisting Arrest and Receiving Stolen Property 1st Degree.
Additional charges are expected.
He currently remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
Police Chief Kirk Blankenship wishes to extend his appreciation to the Cedar Bluff Police Department, Leesburg Police Department and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in making this arrest.
