Vehicle plunges into creek near Gaylesville, Alabama

One person was injured in a single-vehicle wreck Monday afternoon in Cherokee County, Alabama.
The Cherokee County resident, and elderly female victim, was traveling northbound on Highway 68 near the 4-way stop in Gaylesville when her vehicle swerved off the road to the left, ending up in the muddy creek below.
The call of the accident came at approximately 2:05 pm. Emergency units were called to the scene and responded quickly to assist the passenger of the vehicle.
Responders managed to get into the water, where they extracted the female from the wreck using a floatation stretcher. While she was alert, it is unclear what injuries she did sustain, but reportedly had back issues. The victim was transported to Floyd Hospital in Rome by Floyd EMS.
The Gaylesville Fire Department, Cedar Bluff Police, and the Cherokee County Rescue Squad were all involved in the response and rescue effort.
The accident and its cause remain under investigation by an Alabama State Trooper also on the scene.
