The City of Rome and Floyd County have joined Chattooga County, Whitfield County and the City of Cartersville in a class action suit against a number of pharmaceutical companies and distributors of opioid painkillers.
The complaint filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Rome alleges the defendants engaged in “false, deceptive and unfair marketing and/or the unlawful diversion of prescription opioids.”
The civil action seeks to “eliminate the hazard to public health and safety caused by the opioid epidemic, to abate the nuisance caused thereby and to recoup monies that have been spent or will be spent” as a result of the alleged acts by the companies.
The complaint demands a jury trial.
