Driver, passenger flee scene of wreck on Highway 53

April 3, 2019--4:41 p.m.

Staff reports

A two-vehicle wreck on Highway 53 Wednesday morning tied up traffic going into Calhoun.

The wreck occurred just after 8 a.m. near the Highway 53 split.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a 2006 Ford F-350 failed to yield and struck a 2006 Toyota Sienna.

Even though the Ford was determined to be at fault in the wreck, the driver and a passenger in the Toyota got out and fled on foot, leaving the vehicle behind.

The Sienna is registered in Stevenson, Alabama.

Attempts to locate the vehicle’s owner have been unsuccessful.

There were no injuries, but both vehicles sustained significant damage.
