Over the weekend, Chattooga County authorities managed to locate a gun belonging to William “Bob” Packer, who was found dead in his home June 14th.
The weapon was found with the assistance of the woman believed to have murdered Packer – 53 year old Elaine Wilkins; Wilkins reportedly contacted Chattooga County Chief Deputy Kevin Wood the day Packer was killed – and said “I’ve got a dead body here and I’m tired of looking at it.”
She was later arrested and charged with the murder – and afterwards confessed to investigators.
Sheriff Mark Schrader has yet to confirm that the weapon which was found with assistance from Wilkins – a .45 caliber handgun – was the gun actually used to kill Packer.
Serial numbers did confirm that the gun belonged to Packer however they are still awaiting word from the state crime lab as to whether or not it was the murder weapon.
The gun was located near Highway 100 in the general area in which Wilkins had indicated that it would be found.
