Staff reports

Public health officials say that 25 people have died from the flu in Georgia with four of those deaths occurring in the 10 county Northwest Georgia region.

Logan Boss with Northwest Georgia Public Health said the flu-related deaths have been Bartow, Floyd, Polk and Paulding Counties (one in each).

He said if you haven’t gotten a flu shot, don’t wait any longer.

“Every individual over the age of six months should get a flu vaccine,” Boss said. “We don’t know whether the flu season has actually peaked or not, but we do know that we expect to see much more flu, possibly into April and May this year.”

There are other ways you can help prevent the spread of the flu.

  • Frequent and thorough hand washing with soap and warm water.
  • Covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your face. Flu germs can into the body through mucous membranes like your nose, mouth, and eyes.
  • Stay home from work or school if you are sick.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
