Flu death reported in Cherokee County, Alabama

Cherokee County, Alabama has suffered its first influenza death of the season.
The victim, an elderly female, suffered acute respiratory failure after being diagnosed with the flu just hours prior to her death.
In a News Release, Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton said he strongly encourages all citizens to follow the Center for Disease Control guidelines for trying to prevent the spread of the disease – adding if you’re having symptoms, you should consult with a physician as soon as possible.
The CDC is investigating more than 50 flu-related deaths in Alabama so far this season.
In Georgia, there have been 51 flu-related deaths.
Five have occurred in the 10 county Northwest Georgia Region - one each in Bartow, Paulding, and Polk counties and two in Floyd.
