Fallen Polk officer honored in Washington D.C.

Polk County Police Detective Kristen Hearne's name has been added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C.
“At Police week in Washington D.C. in honor of Detective Kristen Hearne. It’s the most awesome sight I’ve ever seen, but also the saddest,” Chief Dodd posted of the memorial. “She will forever be remembered as our HERO. We love and miss her so much.”
Hearne was killed last Sept. 29 while backing up another officer.
May 15 is designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the 37th annual National Peace Officers Memorial Service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Washington, D.C.
Locally, there will be a Peace Officer Memorial Service on Friday, May 18, at 11 a.m. at the Rome-Floyd Law Enforcement Complex Memorial Plaza.
The service will honor fallen officers of law enforcement community in Rome and Floyd County with an honor roll call of 20 fallen officers.
There will be a multi-agency honor guard and bagpipes.
