Staff reports

Cedartown’s Police Chief has confirmed that some sort of dispute on social media escalated into the shooting that left one man dead Wednesday night.

40-year old John Paul Jones, a former police officer, is charged with murder in connection with the death of 40-year old Michael Robinson.

Chief Jamie Newsome said “The victim and the accused were in some type of altercation on Facebook.”

Chief Newsome added that he did not want to go into the particulars of what the men were arguing about.

He says he has two detectives working on the case and it is possible that additional charges may be filed against Jones.

Officers responded to the Woodlawn Drive-Fair Oaks neighborhood after 10 p.m. Wednesday after 911 received several calls reporting gunshots in the area.

Robinson was pronounced dead in the Emergency Room at Polk Medical Center at 10:49 p.m.

He had been shot multiple times.
