Woman charged with aggravated assault on a police officer

A Rome woman was arrested Sunday after she allegedly hit a Floyd County Police car with her vehicle during an attempted traffic stop on Highway 27 North at Dugger Drive.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 46-year old Emily Elizabeth Shelton of a Keown Road address struck the patrol vehicle on the driver’s side rear fender while the officer was standing next to it.

She then reportedly fled from officers at speeds of more than 20 miles per hour above the speed limit.

Shelton is charged with aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude, interference with government property, felony obstruction, reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane, speeding, driving without a license, no brake light and a probation violation.
