P.A.W.S. holding “Pawsitively Perfect Pitty Party”

NEWS RELEASE

Public Animal Welfare Services is pleased to announce its first-ever pitbull awareness event. This artistic-themed event aims to challenge preconceived notions of Pitbulls and pitbull-type breeds.

“34% of canine surrenders over the last year have been Pitbulls or “pitbull-type breeds,” said P.A.W.S. Director Jeffery Mitchell. “We see extremely high rates of breeding among pitbull-types in the community but incredibly low adoption rates on pitbull-types in our facility. With over-breeding in combination with low-adoption rates, we see pitbull-type dogs stay with us for months without finding a home. These are great dogs that have just got a bad reputation. Our goal is to change minds with this educational event.”

The “Pawsitively Perfect Pittie Party” will be held on Saturday, September 21st from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Public Animal Welfare Services, 99 North Avenue.

This event will have a “paint-and-sip” theme to it. Non-alcoholic drinks will be offered to patrons, and stations about Pitbulls will be set up around the facility. Patrons will have a chance to create artwork with animals in the facility. In October, the artwork created will debut at an official art-gallery theme event.

This event will not be adoption-driven, but adoption fees are waived and staff will be available to process adoptions if visitors find their forever friend.
