Man charged with assault, burglary

A Rome man has been arrested and charged with robbery, burglary, and aggravated assault following an incident early Monday morning on South McLin Street.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 28-year old Leon Curtis Brown broke the back window of a home to gain entry.

Once inside, he allegedly kicked in the bedroom door, jumped on top of the victim and began choking her.

Brown also reportedly ripped a gold necklace off the victim’s neck and took her cell phone, which was later found in the back yard.

The incident occurred in front of four children in the home and the victim had a temporary protective order against Brown, who is additionally charged with aggravated stalking, 2nd-degree criminal damage to property, four counts of 3rd-degree cruelty to children, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and tampering with evidence.

An alleged accomplice was also arrested.

24-year old Salaam Tarver of Syracuse, New York is charged with 1st-degree burglary, party to a crime, and tampering with evidence.
