Man charged in burglaries dating back to 2016

A purported gang member from the Atlanta area is back in Floyd County to face charges in connection with a couple of smash and grab burglaries dating back to September of 2016.

According to arrest warrants, Jamarqua Oxtavis Cephus of Dekalb County, Georgia participated with others in break-ins at Mr. C’s convenience store and Southern Pride Food Mart, both on Martha Berry Highway.

Damage to each store was listed in excess of $500.

He is charged with two counts each of 2bd-degree burglary and smash and grab burglary.

Cephus is also charged with violation of the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations (or RICO) Act.

The warrant states he is associated with a criminal street gang based in Oakland City, Atlanta.
