Floyd County Schools implements mask mandate

August 24, 2020–7:54 a.m.

NEWS RELEASE

Floyd County Schools (FCS) will require all students, employees, and business essential visitors to wear face coverings or masks while indoors or upon entering any school offices or buildings until further notice.

Masks or face coverings are also to be worn at all times when social distancing of at least 6 feet is difficult to implement or maintain across all FCS campuses. The CDC recognizes there are specific instances when wearing a face covering may not be feasible, such as PreK naptime. Parents, guardians, caregivers, teachers, and school administrators should consider adaptations, alternatives, or other accommodations whenever possible.

All FCS middle and high school coaches and student-athletes should follow GHSA guidelines while participating in practices and competitions. Spectators of all school-sponsored events are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings or masks as well.

If there is a medical reason why a child cannot wear a mask or face covering, parents/guardians should provide a doctor’s note to keep on file at their child’s school.

As a reminder, parents have until Wednesday, August 26th at 5 p.m. to switch their child’s learning option from virtual at-home learning to traditional in-school learning, or vice versa, for the remainder of this nine-week period.
