A Rome woman was fatally injured in a two-vehicle wreck in Northern Floyd County Monday morning.

The wreck occurred around 8 a.m.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a 2020 Toyota Corolla driven by 23-year old Shelby Dowdy was traveling south on Floyd Springs Road and, according to a witness, failed to stop at the stop sign at Highway 156.

The Toyota was struck by a tractor-trailer, which was traveling east on Highway 156.

After impact, the Toyota rotated clockwise and left the roadway.

The tractor-trailer also left the roadway and struck a large ditch, which caused the truck to roll onto its passenger’s side.

Dowdy died from injuries sustained in the wreck.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 51-year old Kenneth Craig of LaFayette was injured and transported to Floyd Medical Center.
