STAFF REPORTS

The Rome Fire Department hopes to fill five vacancies in the weeks ahead.

Fire Chief Troy Brock told the Rome-Floyd Fire Overview Committee that they put out a call for certified firefighters and got 13 applicants.

“We are in the process of reviewing and doing background checks, and checking certifications,” Brock said.  “We’re going to set up interviews and we are looking for suppression.  Hopefully, we can get five.  That is ongoing for the month of February.  We are very fortunate that we had that many state-certified applicants.  That is a credit to this committee going back to July, I believe it was, on the pay increases.”

Once the five applicants are chosen, they will go through an accelerated rookie school that should take about three weeks.
