Elections office moving to the health department

July 13, 2021–7:45 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

The Floyd County Commission has approved the relocation of the elections office to the Floyd County Health Department on East 12th Street.

The elections office is currently housed downstairs in the county administration building on 4th Avenue.

The new location is expected to provide more space and better accessibility.

Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord said they are going to work as quickly as possible to get moved.

“We have to make some minor modifications to the building that the elections office has asked about,” he added.  “The health department folks have been great to work with on this transition.  Hopefully, it will give the elections office adequate space, if not better than adequate space, and greater access with it being in a better location.”

Also Tuesday night, no one spoke during the first of three public hearings regarding the fiscal year 2021 millage rates for county maintenance and operations, fire and solid waste.

McCord said the rates will be set on July 27.

There will be two more public hearings that day.

The first will be at 8 a.m. and the second prior to the vote during the county commission’s regular meeting at 6 p.m.
