Rome Board of Education to hold called meeting Monday

The Rome Board of Education will have a called meeting Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. to discuss Back to School Guidance as well as other items.

That includes whether or not students will be required to wear facial coverings during the new school year as new COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the community.

The meeting will be in Room A201 at the Rome City Schools College and Career Academy located at 990 Veterans Memorial Highway.

On Friday, the Floyd County Schools announced they that will be returning to pre-pandemic school operations for the new school year.

At this time, Floyd County Schools will not issue mandated precautionary quarantines to students or staff for close contact at school with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

Staff and students are not required to wear masks in FCS schools or offices at any time but can choose to wear them.  FCS will continue to provide disposable masks or neck gaiters to individuals who might request them.

Also Monday, voluntary COVID-19 vaccinations will be available on Monday during the Rome City Schools Meet the Teacher events at each of the schools

Floyd Medical RCS nurses will have both the Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine and the PFIZER-BIONTECH Vaccine available.

Both vaccines are voluntary and available to faculty, staff, and the community.

The PFIZER-BIONTECH vaccine is available to students 12 and older with parental consent.

There is no cost for the vaccine.
