Communities in Schools (CIS) Executive Director, Gregory Wooten, has announced the final winners from Rome City Schools for the 2022 Cardboard Challenge.
From the elementary school level, the winners are:
Games Category
First Place – Uno Cards – West Central
Second Place – Monopoly – West Central
Third Place – Hockey Game – West End
Structures Category
First Place – Bubble Gum – Virtual Learning Academy
Second Place – A View from the Top/Rome Clock Tower – Anna K. Davie
Third Place – Wescelot Castle – West Central
Transportation Category
First Place – Scooter – East Central
Second Place – The Bug – East Central
Third Place – Harry Potter Knight Bus – West End
From the middle/high school level, the winners are:
First Place – Treaty of Paris – Rome High
Second Place – The Locomotive – Rome Middle
Third Place – Foosball Table – Rome Middle
Special Awards
Best in Show – Treaty of Paris – Rome High
Executive Director’s Choice –
Human Claw Machine – Elm Street Elementary
NBMM – Main Elementary
Wooten said that prizes will include a $100 gift card to the first-place winners on the elementary level, which will be presented to the teachers since they guided the elementary school creations.
On the middle and high school level, first place will receive $100 cash. Second and third place winners will receive $50 and then $25. Best in Show and ED’s Choice will each win $100 and then the school from which the first-place winning creations come will receive a plaque.
Sponsors for this year’s event included International paper, the Floyd County Recycling Center, and CareSource. CIS expressed gratitude to all who supported and participated in the 2022 Cardboard Challenge.
About the Cardboard Challenge
The Cardboard Challenge is a fun, creativity-stimulating, competitive event that is designed for area elementary, middle, and high school students. Materials used have to be 100% recyclable materials such as cardboard, paper, plastic bottles, or cans. The Challenge melds together the STEAM concepts (science, technology, education, art, and math) with innovation and teamwork.
