All counties in the Georgia Department of Public Health’s 10-County Northwest District are seeing low community transmission rates for COVID-19.

However, public health officials are keeping a close eye on new variants of the virus.

The BA.4 and BA.5 variants seem to be taking the place of Omicron and other variants.

Dr. Gary Voccio, health director for the Northwest Health District, also said vaccinations are now available for children ages six months to five years old.

Dr. Voccio admitted that there is still a lot of vaccine hesitancy in our area as vaccination rates have stalled.
