Man charged with dogfighting

James Lydell Meredithh

A 46-year-old Rome man was arrested at his Clifford Street home late last week on a felony count of dog fighting.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

James Lydell Meredith was in possession of seven dogs along with bite sticks, wound care products, and other items related to dog fighting.

Meredith was also found with marijuana packaged for resale, a grinder, and THC wax during the execution of a search warrant by Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force officers.

He was additionally charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance with the intent to distribute, and possession of drug-related objects.

Man charged with aggravated assault

A 36-year-old Rome man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with terroristic threats and acts.

According to the warrant:

Brandon Darrell Ware threatened to kill a woman by slitting her throat on Saturday at a location on Blanche Avenue.

The threat was witnessed by another person, the warrant states.

Burglary charge filed against Rome man

A Rome man has been arrested in connection with a burglary at a business in the Armuchee area.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

36-year-old Joshua Ray Bannister entered the building at 3456 Martha Berry Highway and committed thefts on two separate occasions over the course of a week.

Bannister was seen carrying a television from the business.

He is also accused of stealing a computer.

Bannister is charged with 2nd-degree burglary, theft by taking, criminal trespass, and exploitation of the elderly.

Man accused of striking officer, trying to flee

A traffic stop on South Broad Street Sunday ended with the arrest of a Rome man.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

39-year-old Cedric Antonio Jones was not wearing and seatbelt and had an 8-year-old child riding unrestrained in the front seat.

Jones gave police a false name and birth date.

When asked to step out of the SUV, Jones turned and struck the officer while trying to flee on foot.

More than 17 grams of methamphetamine was then found in Jones’ pants pockets.

He is charged with felony counts of possession of methamphetamine, possession of meth with the intent to distribute, and obstruction of officers, along with misdemeanor counts of having an improperly restrained child, giving false information, and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Man charged with public indecency and drug possession

An Adairsville man was arrested at a location on Jewell Frost Drive in Rome Sunday on charges of public indecency and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

45-year-old Mark Anthony Reynolds exposed himself while engaged in a sex act in a public place.

He was also found in possession of oxycodone.

The report states that Reynolds was also driving without a valid license or insurance, the registration on his vehicle was suspended and he had covered his license plate in order to prevent the ability of surveillance equipment to detect.

Report: Man entered two vehicles

A 24-year-old homeless man was jailed Sunday on charges of entering an automobile and possession of methamphetamine.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Joseph Matthew Wheeler entered two vehicles on Grace Drive and Hobson Way before police found him with suspected methamphetamine and less than an ounce of marijuana.

Man arrested following traffic stop

A 44-year-old Rome woman was arrested Saturday on multiple charges during a traffic stop on North Broad Street.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Candice Tonisha Watley was found with methamphetamine in her pants pocket, along with a glass smoking device, rolling papers, oxycodone, and another prescription pill not in the original container.

She also had marijuana in her pants pocket and in her hair.

Watley is charged with possession of meth, marijuana, and dangerous drugs as well as possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of drugs not in the original container, possession of drug-related objects, and driving with suspended registration.

Teen accused of hiding wanted mom from police

A Rome teenager is facing a felony count of hindering the apprehension of a criminal after reportedly hiding his mother from law enforcement.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

18-year-old Leviticus Drake Peek was stopped on Martha Berry Boulevard and was found to be driving without a license.

Additionally, he was hiding his mother in the storage area, knowing that she had an active warrant for her arrest.

Peek also lied to the police about the woman’s whereabouts.
